Even though we read from it every day, it’s easy to forget just how many times and how often God’s promise to man is referenced throughout the Bible, the number of times the Israelites cycled through being deeply committed to their covenant with God versus being caught up in materialism, or about the thousands of interconnections that exist all throughout the books of the Bible (over 63,000!). This awareness can most effectively be gained by engaging with the Bible in its entirety.
Reading the whole Bible may feel like a tall order with our lives as busy as they are. However, it’s importance cannot be understated. That is why this coming year, 2023, we will be joining together in a journey through the entire Bible. In the past if you’ve felt limited by time, intimidated by the sheer length of the book or that the language is not always easy to comprehend, then this approach to reading the Bible will be a perfect opportunity for you to overcome these barriers!
Here’s the scoop:
With readings of only 15 minutes per day, you will have finished the entire Bible by the end of the year. In January, we’ll start at the beginning of the Old Testament and the beginning of the New Testament and read in parallel, working our way chronologically from there. Each group of readings will also include selections from Psalms and Proverbs. Choose whichever Bible translation is most suitable for your goals.
Readings are done on an individual basis. We will meet on the 2nd and 4th Thursday of each month at 2pm in the Reading Room (and on Zoom) to discuss insights. Although recommended, it’s okay if you don’t start at the very beginning of the year and need to join us mid-Bible. You’ll be welcome to join in the conversation whenever it works best for you!
Here’s some of what you’ll experience:
- Gain a profound sense of the ever evolving understanding of humanity’s relationship with God.
- Expand your big-picture grasp of the Bible and gain insightful new views of the narrative arc of the full Bible story.
- Reveal connections between the Old and New Testament that you may have never before noticed.
- Discover nuances in the relationships between different Bible characters and timelines.
- Develop increased understanding, discipline, clarity and comprehension.
- Establish a broader point of reference for the Bible stories you already know so well but have rarely read their fuller context.
- Become more alert to the thousands of times Mary Baker Eddy references Bible themes and topics in her book Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures and in her other writings.
Our first study group gathering will be held at the Reading Room (and via Zoom) on January 12 at 2pm and the discussion will cover the following citations:
- Genesis 1:1 – Genesis 27:46
- Matthew 1:1 – Matthew 9:17
- Psalm 1:1 – Psalm 10:18
- Proverbs 1:1 – Proverbs 3:10
The first tenet of Christian Science reads, “As adherents of Truth, we take the inspired Word of the Bible as our sufficient guide to eternal Life.” (Man. 15:13). In this, the discoverer and founder of Christian Science, Mary Baker Eddy underscores the Bible’s place as the foundational and fundamental source of Christian Science theology. She also states in her book The First Church of Christ, Scientist, and Miscellany, p. 295:17:
“Christian Scientists are fishers of men. The Bible is our sea-beaten rock. It guides the fishermen. It stands the storm. It engages the attention and enriches the being of all men.“
This is a special opportunity to fulfill your goal of reading the entire Bible while having a group of like-minded seekers travel with you along the way. We hope you’ll join us!

Reading the Bible together during 2023 is a fabulous idea. I invited friends whether they join or not, it feels great to have something I want to share with people that I love. Great website by the way. So inviting an up lifting. It stimulates me to explore more. Thank you.
More and more I have noted that the Bible is always current….not old stories, metaphors, healings from back when. Lessons and healings from the Bible are as relevant and fresh today as ever and eternally real.
